This review course will cover all aspects of cardiovascular ultrasound essential to these examinations, including physics, valvular heart disease, ischemic heart disease, congenital heart disease, and new technologies. The expert faculty will use case studies, lectures and interactive sessions to help prepare the attendee for the ASCeXAM<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0or ReASCE<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0examinations. An Audience Response System and question and answer sessions facilitate faculty interaction and self-guided learning.<\/p>\n<div>Upon completion of this course, participants should be better able to:<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Explain the essential physical principles of cardiac ultrasound.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Recognize common ultrasound artifacts and their genesis.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Estimate systolic function using standard M-mode and 2D echocardiography, as well as newer modalities such as strain imaging and 3D echocardiography.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Identify and quantitate valvular heart disease severity.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Describe the application of Doppler in the assessment of hemodynamics and diastolic function.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Perform clinically relevant calculations of valve areas and intracardiac pressures.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Explain proven techniques for interpreting stress echocardiographic examinations.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Differentiate features of cardiac tamponade, constrictive pericarditis and restrictive cardiomyopathy.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 List appropriate applications of echocardiography.<\/div>\n<div>\u2022 Recognize newer applications of echocardiography such as myocardial contrast.<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lectures given will emphasize illustrative cases and as such will not be \u201ccanned talks\u201d from other cardiovascular ultrasound courses.
